TV DRAMA

Passer By - a new drama for ´óÏó´«Ã½ ONE

Have you ever ignored someone in distress because you don't want to get involved?

Tony Marchant (The Knight's Tale, Holding On, Crime and Punishment) has created a new drama for ´óÏó´«Ã½ ONE.

Passer By stars James Nesbitt, Siobhan Finneran and Emily Bruni and begins filming on 8 September.

In Passer By James Nesbitt plays radiographer Joe Keyes. Late one night he is travelling home by train when he sees a young girl, Alice (Emily Bruni) being chatted up by two men.

When the banter becomes threatening Joe is unsure whether or not to intervene.

When he reaches his station he glances across at Alice who seems to be appealing for his help.

Now he faces a dilemma. Should he stay on the train and get involved or get off and go home?

Joe chooses home. His actions result in terrible consequences for Alice, his wife Helen (Siobhan Finneran) and his two children – but most of all for his sense of identity.

Writer Tony Marchant says: "A man makes a fateful decision that systematically takes apart his authority as a husband, a father and a man. It's ultimately about how hard it is to be good and do the right thing."

Director David Morrissey says: "Having worked with Tony and David [David Snodin, the producer] before as an actor on two very successful productions - Into The Fire and Holding On - I'm delighted to be on the other side of the camera with them for this truly exciting drama."

Laura Mackie, Head of Drama Serials, says: "Tony's script is an honest and intimate portrayal of a man's inner emotions.

"Once again Tony has delivered a drama that we can all identify with – what is the contract between strangers? Do you get involved or leave well alone?"

Passer By is directed by David Morrissey (Sweet Revenge) and is produced by David Snodin (Crime and Punishment, Real Men).

The Executive producer is Laura Mackie. The drama re-unites Snodin, Marchant and Morrissey who worked together on Holding On and Into The Fire.

Marchant's The Knight's Tale is one of ´óÏó´«Ã½ ONE's Canterbury Tales and transmits on 25 September.

Tony Marchant's hard-hitting drama Birthright (working title) about the fertility industry is currently in development for ´óÏó´«Ã½ ONE.
