Tartan
Shorts 2003
From
Alex Norton to Richard E Grant, Ken Stott to Edward Woodward, Siobhan
Redmond to Karen Dunbar, some of the biggest names in the acting
world have made their mark in a Tartan Short.
Continuing
the trend of merging talent with cutting edge film-makers, Tartan
Shorts 2003 lives up to its enviable reputation as a highly successful
film scheme.
The
scheme, which began in 1992, is a joint initiative between ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland
and Scottish Screen, and was designed to develop and encourage Scotland's
emergent film-makers.
Each
year three writer/director/producer teams are selected and given
the opportunity to produce a nine minute film suitable for both
cinema exhibition and television broadcast.
The
selected films are premiered at The Edinburgh Film Festival before
being broadcast on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland and then ´óÏó´«Ã½ Network. The films
are then shown at festivals around the world.
This
year's films reflect the diversity of the successful film scheme.

gothic tale of family disharmony.

Becky
Lloyd, Short Film Executive, Scottish Screen, is delighted with
the success of the short film venture: "Tartan Shorts has become
one of the best known short film schemes in the world with Oscar
and Cannes Film Festival success to prove it.
"This
year's films showcase some very different approaches to the short
film genre, but they all have one thing in common – fresh,
original writing and directors who have a truly distinctive and
imaginative approach to the stories they are telling.
"I
am sure these will prove popular with the audiences and on the festival
circuit as well."
Sara
Harkins, Executive Producer, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland, echoes these sentiments,
