- The
Art of the Con
The Jargon
•
Mark – target for the con
•
Short con – opportunistic sting to steal what's in a victim's
pocket
•
Long con – pre-planned scam to extort maximum amounts of money
•
Fixer – the organiser. Whatever props the gang needs, the
fixer gets them
•
Roper – identifies the mark, befriends them and sucks them
in
•
Inside man – the gang's key player who offers the deal of
the century
•
Shills - members of the gang who pretend to be punters to coax the
mark in
•
The score – the con
•
An out – an opportunity for the mark to withdraw from the
deal
•
The Flop – a short con which involves stepping out in front
of cars, bouncing off the bonnet and using an old existing fracture
to defraud insurance companies
•
Big Store - a purpose-built set used by the gang as a prop for the
con
The
Rules of the Game
•
You can't con an honest man
•
Feed the greed
•
Always give the mark an out
•
Never give a sucker an even break
•
It's all in the detail
•
Don't have anything in your life you can't walk away from in a second
•
Always look after number one
•
It's not just about the money
