Kylie
tells Parkinson about love, marriage and having children - at 35
Kylie
Minogue has said that at 35, she worries that "my chance for that
has already gone" of having a relationship as strong and secure
as her parents enjoy (Parkinson, 大象传媒 ONE, Saturday 28 February,
10.50pm).
Answering
Michael Parkinson's question that at 35, does she think she's left
it a bit late to have children, Kylie admits that "a woman of my
age can't help but think about those things."
Referring to her current relationship with French boyfriend Oliver
Martinez, Michael asks, "Are French men better than English guys?"
Kylie
replies, "How can I possibly say that?"
Michael
then says, "It's a serious question. There's a different culture
of course involved, and you spend some time in France."
Kylie
continues, "It makes it very interesting.
"You
can do very mundane ordinary things and it's the way I view him,
doing something normal, or he would see me doing something normal,
is suddenly quite exotic or amusing or frustrating. It can be both
things.
"So
there's definitely that part to our relationship, but I couldn't
possibly say that French are better or worse, but he is wonderful."
Michael
asks, "Does he have a sexy French accent?"
Kylie
replies, "He's got, I guess, it's mainly French but a bit Spanish
as well."
Michael
asks, "Would you want to get married like your mum and dad, as opposed
to living together? Would you want that kind of commitment?"
Kylie
reveals, "Well I often, and for quite a number of years, I've looked
at my parents and they're just still together, they're still in
love, they miss each other madly, they hold hands and conoodle.
"They're
just the best example for me. And it slightly pains me to think
that I will never have that, my chance for that has already gone."
Michael
continues to ask, "Why?"
Kylie
continues, "Because I'm 35. They did that when they were 22, so
to start a family that young and to be together for such a long
time, so I've come to terms with that, but I would still like to,
definitely to have something secure and wonderful.
"Even
when girlfriends speak to me and they are in serious relationships,
married with children, and I say: 'Well that must be great', but
I really, until I experience that myself I won't know.
"I
know it will be the best thing I've ever done."
Michael
asks, "What? Children? This includes children? You're leaving it
a bit late aren't you at 35?"
Kylie
replies, "I'm aware of this Michael."
She
continues, "Well it's not too late, but obviously a woman of my
age can't help but think about those things. I'm asked about it
all the time. And I never have really a straight answer for it.
"Anyone
who asks me that, because I don't know yet, we'll see if and when
it happens."
During
the interview she also tells Michael about her music, her stage
and video performances, the future, and her views on being an icon
-
particularly being a gay icon.
She
says, "I guess I start to feel uncomfortable with that, I guess
it's a compliment and I don't really know what to do with it."
Kylie
also performs her new single Red Blooded Woman and a previous release,
Love at First Sight.
Also
appearing on Parkinson are Paul O'Grady and Robson Green,
and there's music from Peter Cincotti.
