Spring & Summer highlights 2004

Entertainment

I Am Not an Animal

I Am Not An Animal is an animated comedy series about the only six talking animals in the world, whose cosseted existence in a vivisection unit is turned upside down when they are liberated by animal rights activists.

Written and directed by Peter Baynham (I'm Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, The Day Today), I Am Not an Animal聜 features the voices of Steve Coogan, Simon Pegg, Julia Davis, Kevin Eldon, Amelia Bulmore and Arthur Mathews.

This is the first production from Baby Cow Animation (Steve Coogan, Henry Normal, Tim Searle).

Unable to find a decent restaurant in the wild, fugitives from the scientists who created them, can these poor, deluded freaks possibly survive?

And is the world ready for an ambitious right-wing sparrow, a bulldog obsessed with settling down, a horse with literary pretensions, a sex-crazed monkey in love with a slutty rat and a rabbit with as much of a man's brain that could be stuffed in its skull?

Was there ever a more contented bunch of animals? A stylish waterside apartment, specially designed clothes, modern European cuisine and a cellar full of Chianti are just a few of the perks of this pampered menagerie.

But it's all a sham: the apartment stands at the heart of a vivisection laboratory; the stunning lakeside view is a video loop on a flat screen monitor. And the wine's 拢2.99 Chilean Cabernet with a fake label.

This is Project S.

Crisis Command 聳 Could You Run the Country?

Britain is facing a crisis. People's lives and the security and standing of the nation are at stake, so tough decisions must be made quickly.

Dramatising situations that Britain could one day face, Crisis Command 聳 Could You Run The Country? gives three people the chance to run the country during a potential disaster.

They receive advice from military, police and communication experts, but the final decisions are down to them alone.

Presented by Gavin Hewitt, Crisis Command 聳 Could You Run The Country? is a test of confidence and the ability to prioritise and keep calm in a tense and rapidly evolving situation.

It examines the dilemmas ministers face when dealing with crisis, and the hard decisions necessary to make to save lives.

The Keith Barret Show

Rob Brydon's comedy creation Keith Barret is the unlikely host of a new relationship discussion series.

The down trodden but always positive chauffeur, first seen in the critically acclaimed Marion & Geoff, asks the most famous married couples in showbusiness 聳 what makes for a successful partnership?

Each week Keith uses a combination of questions from the studio audience and references to his own, often disastrous, relationship experiences to probe his guests, including TV favourites Richard & Judy, and discover how they've kept their marriage on the right track.

In addition to the studio based discussions Keith introduces filmed reports where he enlists the help of top sex and relationship experts, including Would Like To Meet counsellor Tracey Cox, who provide tips on attracting and keeping the ideal partner.

QI

Ringmaster Stephen Fry towers over the happy chaos in the return of the world's most impossible quiz, starring Alan Davies.

Butterscotch, balloons, bicycling, beavers, ballet, bottoms, Bulgarians or bees 聳 it's anyone's guess what the underlying theme of the second series will be.

The series features guest stars including Bill Bailey, Jo Brand, Jeremy Hardy, Phill Jupitus, Clive Anderson, John Sessions, Fred McCaulay, Phil Kaye, Jeremy Clarkson, Barry Cryer, Arthur Smith, Josie Lawrence, Mark Steele, Jimmy Carr, Anneka Rice, Sean Locke and Rich Hall.

Happy Birthday 大象传媒 TWO

大象传媒 TWO celebrates its 40th anniversary by taking a look at the people and programmes that have made the channel what it is today.

Integral to the evening are behind-the-scenes stories from the controllers and contributors who saw the channel through adversity, controversy, innovation and invention.

The programme hears the stories behind such classic programmes as The Likely Lads, Arena, The Old Grey Whistle Test, I Claudius, Boys From The Blackstuff, Not The Nine O聮Clock News, Top Gear and Little Britain to name just a few, as well as some of the channel's less auspicious offerings, such as The Borgias.

The programme is punctuated by original sketches written and performed by the Dead Ringers team.

Dotted throughout the evening are the strange and wonderful letters from the readers of the Radio Times, who were moved enough by the channel to put pen to paper.

The Cram

The Cram is the ultimate mental marathon that investigates how much the human brain can take in and recount, over a series of tests pushing the mind to the absolute limit.

Six contestants are chosen at the beginning of the week and subjected to the rigours of a study room, where they are allowed to cram in as much information as possible in preparation for a gruelling test.

As the lowest-scoring contestant is eliminated, the whole process is repeated until the ultimate crammer is crowned.

Coupling

The award-winning hit comedy series is back as Susan and Steve are pregnant (well, mostly Susan) and Patrick and Sally are discussing commitment (well, mostly Sally).

And a guy called Oliver has his eye on Jane, but is his job going to be a problem?

The frank, funny and totally upfront account of love and lust between best friends and exes is a real family affair, produced by Sue Vertue, written by her husband Steven Moffat with Sue's mother Beryl Vertue, as executive producer.

Susan is played by Sarah Alexander, Steve by Jack Davenport, Patrick by Ben Miles, Sally by Kate Isitt, Oliver by Richard Mylan and Jane by Gina Bellman.

Digital viewers will get the chance to see the new series of Coupling earlier this season on 大象传媒 THREE.
