Music to their ears

In the 21 years since it first went on air 大象传媒 Radio York has accumulated a large collection of CDs and vinyl singles.

Now, with the onset of new computer technology, the station is organising the biggest clear out of surplus material in its history.

大象传媒 Radio York is handing over more than 400 music CDs to Harrogate College to help media students with their coursework.

The CDs are among a huge number being donated to charity, to community projects and to the colleges that are training a new generation of radio presenters and producers.

The CDs are being handed over to Harrogate College today by Radio York Harrogate reporter Sarah Best and presenter Colin Hazelden.

The presentation comes just days before Colin helps to launch a brand new programme, dedicated to Harrogate, Hambleton and the Dales.

North Yorkshire Breakfast will provide news, sport, travel and weather for the Harrogate and Hambleton areas.

The programme, to be co-presented by Colin Hazelden and Sandie Dunleavy, will be on from 7.00am to 9.00am weekdays on 104.3 FM.

Matt Youdale, Managing Editor of 大象传媒 Radio York, said: "This new show is one of the most important things we have done in the station's 21-year history.

"We want to get closer to our audiences, and are splitting our output on different frequencies to get even more local.

"I'm just happy that we help Harrogate College with these CDs. It would have been such a waste to have just thrown them away."
