Murphy's Law
James Nesbitt stars in Murphy's Law

Murphy's Law

Introduction

Starts 大象传媒 ONE, Monday 10 May at 9.00pm

James Nesbitt returns as Detective Sergeant Tommy Murphy in the second series of Murphy's Law for 大象传媒 ONE, a Tiger Aspect Production for 大象传媒 Northern Ireland.

Murphy is joined by DC Alan Carter, played by Del Synnott, and faces unspeakable tragedy in episode one, written by series creator Colin Bateman.

Tommy Murphy is an undercover cop whose outspoken style hides his sensitivity.

James Nesbitt (Passer By, Wall Of Silence, Bloody Sunday) says: "Unlike most undercover cops, Murphy is not a chameleon. Instead of blending in, he sticks out because he's something of a loner, with very little to lose. He's very much an individual, dealing with life and his job on his own terms."

This time round, however, Murphy has another personal trauma to deal with early in the series. Just when he thinks he's found happiness with colleague DI Annie Guthrie (Claudia Harrison), tragedy strikes in the form of a 'Jack the Ripper' style murderer.

He is about to go on a well earned holiday with his best friend Father McBride, played by Mark Benton, when he receives a call to say that Annie has been involved in an undercover incident with catastrophic results.

The new series of Murphy's Law comprises six, stand alone, one-hour films with four of the six written by acclaimed screenwriter, novelist and creator of Murphy's Law, Colin Bateman (Divorcing Jack, Wild About Harry and Jumpers).

Bateman's first Murphy's Law novel was published in 2002 and marked the beginning of a series about the maverick cop.

The other two episodes are written by Tony McHale and Stephen Brady.

Murphy and Carter take the audience on a journey from the backstreets of London's homeless world and the seedy deals of a crack drug squad to the disappearance of two convent nuns and a vigilante group wreaking revenge on criminals.

Guest stars include Sir Anthony Sher (Mrs Brown), Cal MacAninch (Rockface), Kirsty Mitchell (Holby City), Paterson Joseph (William and Mary), Claire Skinner (Perfect Strangers) and Amanda Ryan (Attachments).

Murphy's Law is produced by Jemma Rodgers and created by writer and novelist Colin Bateman, who wrote the character of Tommy Murphy especially for Nesbitt.

The executive producers are Stephen Wright (大象传媒 Northern Ireland) and Greg Brenman (Head of Drama, Tiger Aspect Productions).
