Following the triumphant success of his 大象传媒 ONE two-part drama The Lost
Prince, Stephen Poliakoff joins forces again with TalkBack
productions and returns to 大象传媒 ONE with two new feature length films
which take an epic sweep through the 1980s and 1990s.
Controller of 大象传媒 Television Drama Commissioning, Jane Tranter, says:
"Following the critical and popular acclaim of The Lost Prince, we are
delighted that Stephen Poliakoff is returning to 大象传媒 ONE, this time
with an ambitious and challenging pair of feature length dramas - bold
reinventions of the single play - linked by one character.
"With all his characteristic sensitivity, insight and emotional depth,
he now turns his attention to our recent social history, starting in
the early 1980s."
Stephen Poliakoff says: "Damian Lewis and Jodhi May play the leads
in the first film, a panoramic story of the shifting power between a
boss and his secretary as their careers rise and fall through the dramatic
changes in the work place of 1980s and 1990s Britain.
"The second film, a story of grief and celebrity, is set in the intense
spring and summer of New Labour's election victory and Diana's death,
and stars Bill Nighy as a PR guru who has to stop and revaluate his
world when his daughter threatens to leave his life, perhaps as revenge
for his serial infidelities.
"Miranda Richardson also stars as a mother trying to bury her grief
in an unconventional way after the loss of her young son.
"Robert Lindsay is set to star in both films as Sneath, a social chameleon
and born survivor who is always there as events unfold and available
to tell the story later."
Both new films (titles to be confirmed) will be shown together on 大象传媒
ONE next year and are produced by Nicolas Brown (White Teeth, Nicholas
Nickleby).
The director of photography is Barry Ackroyd (The Lost Prince, Sweet
Sixteen, Carla's Song) and Adrian Johnston (The Lost Prince, Perfect
Strangers) will compose an original score.
The TalkBack executive producer is Peter Fincham and David M Thompson
is the executive producer for the 大象传媒.
Notes to Editors
A third Poliakoff film, yet to be written, will be shown on 大象传媒 ONE
in 2006.
Poliakoff's last drama for the 大象传媒, The Lost Prince, first seen on
大象传媒 ONE in January 2003, captured the hearts of the nation as well as
earning unanimous critical acclaim.
The two-part drama told the little-known story of Edwardian royal,
John, the youngest child of George V and Queen Mary set against the
backdrop of unprecedented change - the political build-up to the First
World War.
It went on to win Poliakoff the 2003 Broadcasting Press Guild Award
for Best Single Drama and Bafta Best Actress nominations for Gina McKee
and Miranda Richardson.
