大象传媒, ITV, Channel 4 and Five go head-to-head for the
first time ever for the title of Britain's fastest and fittest channel
in a star-studded episode of Superstars for Sport Relief '04.
Superstars: Battle of the Channels
which is being made by TWI for 大象传媒 ONE, will form part of the programming
for The Night of Sport Relief on 10 July '04.
Presiding over the challenge will be TV presenter Cilla
Black and trackside reporter Clare Balding
and the teams have been chosen by the network controller for each channel:
Lorraine Heggessey (大象传媒 ONE), Nigel Pickard (ITV), Kevin Lygo (Channel
4) and Dan Chambers (Five).
Each channel has to field a team of four, two men and
two women, and will be captained by a well-known showbiz celeb who won't
take part in the challenges but will spur their team on from the sidelines.
The teams are as follows:
大象传媒 - Nigel Harman, who plays EastEnders'
Dennis Rickman (team captain); newsreader Andrew Marr;
Top of the Pops Saturday presenter Fearne Cotton; Sarah
Manners, who plays receptionist Bex Reynolds in Casualty and
Nick Knowles from DIY SOS.
ITV - Pop Idol judge Pete Waterman
(team captain); Claire Sweeney (60 Minute Makeover);
newsreaders Mark Austin and Katie Derham
and one other to be confirmed.
Channel 4 - Countdown presenter Richard Whiteley
(team captain); Big Brother's Brian Dowling; Sunetra
Sarker, who plays Anji in No Angels; model and actress Caprice
and one other to be confirmed.
Five - Presenter of Britain's Worst... strand Quentin
Wilson (team captain); Vicki Butler-Henderson
(Fifth Gear); investigative reporter Donal MacIntyre;
Five News weather presenter, Lara Lewington and The
Wright Stuff's Matthew Wright.
All of the celebrities taking part in Superstars: Battle
of the Channels will have to push themselves to the limit in the five
sporting events of this do or die battle.
The challenges that the team will face will be: 100
metres sprint, swimming relay, gym tests, tug of war and a mile running
relay.
TWI's Head of Entertainment Bob Massie said: "Superstars:
Battle of the Channels will not only provide viewers with 40 minutes
of great fun watching at home as celebrities battle it out for supremacy,
but also will help deserving causes both in the UK and overseas."
Cilla Black said: "I am really looking forward to the
show. It's going to be great fun. I'm sure they will all be very competitive
even though it is for charity!
"But the most important thing is to get people
digging deep into their pockets to try and raise more for Sport Relief
'04 than they did last time."
Superstars: Battle of the Channels is being produced
by Chris O'Dell for TWI/ 大象传媒 ONE and the executive producer is Bob Massie.
