Swahili speaking audiences across East and Central Africa can participate in a week of special programming to be broadcast live from the heart of Nairobi.

For five days from Monday 5 July 大象传媒 Swahili reporters will be in the markets, schools and streets of Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya meeting some of the 18.5 million listeners who tune into 大象传媒 Swahili every week.

Tido Mhando, Head of 大象传媒 Swahili, said: "We want to thank the listeners who have made 大象传媒 Swahili the most popular international radio station in the region. The whole week is for and about our listeners.

"大象传媒 Swahili producers and regional reporters will tour Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa and Arusha to meet listeners face-to-face and give them the opportunity to share stories about their everyday lives and the issues concerning them.

"We also want to know their thoughts on 大象传媒 Swahili output and whether it serves their needs.

"It will be an exciting and engaging week and an opportunity for 大象传媒 Swahili to really connect and get to know its audience."

Presenter Hafsa Mossi will coordinate all interactive discussions from a studio in Nairobi.

Subjects could range from the Swahili language to the notorious Matatus transport.

Listeners can take part by telephone: 227 4790, 229 110 or 250 744; by email: eastafricabureau@bbc.co.uk or by fax: 214435.

The programmes can be heard at 0600 East African Standard Time (EAT); 1300 EAT; 1830 EAT; and 2045 EAT on Radio Free Africa and Radio One.

Swahili speakers can also follow the event on bbcswahili.com. The site is now 30% wider and the additional space organised more efficiently. It loads much more quickly and appears in a new eye-catching colour scheme.

bbcswahili.com will have pictures and profiles of all the producers on the tour and the cities they will be visiting.

bbcswahili.com will also summarise the key discussions of the day.
