大象传媒 invests in young reporters' scheme in Shropshire

大象传媒 Radio Shropshire welcomes 17-year-old James Sullivan from Longnor, near Shrewsbury to the county's first Blast scheme on Monday (26 July).

Blast is a project is aimed at young people between 16 and 19 years old with a passion for the arts - whether that's hip hop, banghra, Bollywood or ballet.

James fought off competition from a huge number of Shropshire teenagers to land the Radio Shropshire Blast Young Reporter's placement.


James is currently studying at Adams Grammar School and loves music.

As well as knowing the local band scene incredibly well, James plays lead guitar in a band called Ripchord.

He will be working, unpaid, on a part-time basis from 26 July to 13 September to cover the arts in Shropshire.

He will be responsible for reporting on events up and down the county and updating the 大象传媒's Where I Live website for Shropshire.

He will also be learning more about radio and even TV.


James says: "I am thrilled to have been given the chance of supporting and reporting on the thriving arts community in Shropshire."

Tim Pemberton, Managing Editor at 大象传媒 Radio Shropshire, said: "I am looking forward to welcoming James and think that he will be ideally placed to help us serve younger people on our website and in the rest of our output."

Thirty one Blast reporters are based around the country, from Newcastle to Jersey, providing a unique opportunity to learn more about the 大象传媒, share their knowledge, and expand their writing and reporting skills.

The Shropshire placement will involve on the job training and a mentor to provide additional coaching.
