World-renowned percussionist Evelyn Glennie performs
Tan Dun's Water Concerto: For Water Percussion and Orchestra,
taking Prommers on a journey through the amazing colours of sound achieved
through water.
听
This highly visual and atmospheric percussion performance uses instruments
made from regular items including water basins, sieves, foam paddles
and wooden salad bowls.
听
The Chinese-American composer Tan Dun won an Oscar for his music for
the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
听
Water Concerto belongs to a series of works highlighting natural materials,
alongside the Water Passion After St Matthew; the opera Tea: A Mirror
Of Soul, which makes use of ceramic, stone and paper instruments; and
Inventions for Paper Instruments and Orchestra.
听
The Water Concerto is performed in Prom 24 alongside music from Cage,
Shostakovich and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
