2's weekend schedule is to have a fresh new sound from Saturday 4 September
with new shows for Dermot O'Leary, Elaine Paige, Lulu,
Mark Lamarr, Bob Harris and Helen Mayhew together
with a new Tuesday show for Desmond Carrington.
听
Lesley Douglas, Controller, Radio 2, says: "I
believe that these programmes and presenters provide Radio 2 with a
line-up for the autumn which is unrivalled.
听
"It's wonderful to have talent such as Dermot,
Elaine and Lulu joining forces with our existing presenters.
听
"I'm particularly pleased that Desmond Carrington
has agreed to launch a brand new show and format bringing his expertise
and unique style to mid-weeks."
听
Dermot O'Leary hosts a new show on Saturdays,
2.00-4.00pm. Dermot's Saturday Club will be packed full of features,
top quality music, competitions, and much more.
听
Dermot says: "I'm very excited about my new show
on Radio 2.听To be presenting in the broadcasting jetstream of such
giants as Jonathan Ross and Terry Wogan is brilliant but a bit scary.
听
"However, I want the Saturday Club to be the most
interactive show on Radio 2 where we can build our own gang of listeners
and generate a real 'club' feel with our audience."
听
Music in the show will include many exclusive first
time broadcasts along with live sessions from the most exciting artists
around.
听
Dermot says: "I'm a huge music fan and can't wait
to be let loose with Radio 2's extensive playlist of music." (Murfia

Mark Lamarr presents a new show for Saturday
nights, 7.30-8.30pm.
听
Mark Lamarr's Alternative Sixties features the
coolest Sixties tracks.
听
Mark already presents reggae and rock'n'roll shows for
the network, but in this - his first weekly programme - he will mine
another seam from his extensive record collection.
听
The show features great songs from both sides of the
Atlantic including soul, r'n'b, country, ska, original Brit pop and
more.
听
Mark says: "The songs I'm going to play on this
new show really don't get aired anywhere else on UK radio.
听
"I'm really looking forward to playing some of
my favourite Sixties tracks from my record collection." (Unique

Elaine Paige, the undisputed first lady of British
musical theatre, will present a new show starting on Sunday 5 September,
1.00-2.30pm, featuring the finest music from stage and screen.
听
Elaine introduces some favourite show stoppers in this
celebration of the best of Broadway, Hollywood and London's West End.
听
The programme also features a weekly competition, listener
requests and Elaine in conversation with some of the people who have
created and starred in the greatest musicals of all time.
听
Elaine says: "I am so excited to be joining 大象传媒
Radio 2.听 I'm really looking forward to听this new听challenge
... and all without having to put on lots of make up and a hot and heavy
costume!"

Lulu signs to Radio 2 for a new Sunday show starting
on 5 September, 3.30-5.00pm, celebrating the art of songwriting.
听
The iconic British singer's weekly show will feature
the world's best loved songs, from the Fifties through to today.
听
Lulu says: "This new programme shows just how important
great songwriting is to Radio 2. I'm thrilled about being involved with

Desmond Carrington moves from Sundays to host a new show on Tuesday
nights, 7.00聳8.00pm, The Music Goes Round.
听
Desmond says: "The Music Goes Round will feature
an eclectic mix of records ranging from the Twenties to the Nineties
with the emphasis on 'popular classics'.
听
"I hope the loyal audience of All Time Greats on
Sundays 聳 some of whom have been with me for 23 years - will be
joining me on Tuesday evenings 聳 I'm looking forward to still calling
in 'at your place'!
听
"My team and I are looking forward to the changeover
because it means I can continue to broadcast live from my home in Scotland

Bob Harris presents a new late-night show on
Friday nights starting on 3 September, midnight聳3.00am.
听
Bob, who will continue to present his shows on Saturday
and Thursday nights, says: "As with all my shows, the engine of
my new Friday night/Saturday morning programme will be new music.
听
"I do an enormous amount of listening to music
of all styles and I try to play听as much emerging talent as I can.听
听
"So, the show will favour exciting new records,
laced with听tracks from the all-time greats.
听
"I'll听be delving back into the 大象传媒 archives,
to re-discover classic Whistle Test and Sounds of the Seventies sessions
and playing听my favourite听blues, r'n'b, world music, country
and Americana.听 I promise the show will听sound unique."

Helen Mayhew fronts a new late-night jazz programme on Saturday
nights, starting on 4 September (Saturday night into Sunday morning,
1.00-4.00am.)
听
Helen is the current presenter of Big Band Special on
Radio 2.
听
Helen says: "The show will be a chill-out zone
with a difference featuring music perfect for dreaming away the small
hours.
听
"It will be a sophisticated late night soundtrack,
easy listening music with an edge, jazz for people who would never describe
themselves as jazz fans.
听
"There'll be jazz ballads from the greats alongside
music from contemporary jazz artists, world music and European jazz.
听
"Some of the artists will be unfamiliar names,
but all making outstandingly beautiful music that deserves to be heard
