nation chooses its favourite building to be restored

The Old Grammar School and Saracen's Head in Kings
Norton, Birmingham was voted the winner of Restoration in a magnificent
live final from Hampton Court Palace tonight (Sunday 8 August).
听
Griff Rhys Jones announced the much awaited result
which has seen the whole nation get behind the 21 historic buildings
at risk across the UK in a bid to save our heritage.
听
The public has decided that The Old Grammar School and
Saracen' Head should now be given a new lease of life with funds raised
during Restoration's four-week run, including the 拢2.5m donated
by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
听
The Old Grammar School and Saracen' Head was the winner
with the Working Man's Institute and Memorial Hall in Newbridge,
Wales coming second and Gayle Mill in North Yorkshire coming
in third.
听
On behalf of everybody, and on behalf of The Old Grammar
School and Saracen's Head, a big thanks to the supporters of our buildings
and thanks most of all to the viewers for watching and voting.

behind their local buildings and rallying support.

their profile and create interest in their future."

Carole Souter, Director of the Heritage Lottery Fund,
added: "A lot of lottery tickets were bought to raise 拢2.5m.
I think it is great that so many people have had a say in how it is
spent.

School and Saracen' Head will be delighted. The real work starts here."
