Blue Peter Book Awards 2004 shortlist

Blue Peter has announced the shortlist for the programme's
fifth annual Book Awards.
听
Celebrating the magic of books, the shortlist includes
a diverse mix of some of most exciting and prestigious names in the
world of children's literature.
听
From tales of Ancient Greece to modern Ethiopia; from
a man who goes to work on the moon to a generous-hearted giant; and
from a passionate suffragette to a determined mum, the list features
a wealth of stirring stories and fascinating facts for young readers
everywhere.
听
As ever a panel of nine young judges, made up of Blue
Peter competition winners from all over the UK, will now get down to
reading the 15 contenders ahead of meeting later this autumn to decide
on the category winners and the overall winner of the title - Blue Peter
Book of the Year.
听
Specially commissioned blue glass awards will be presented
to the winners and, from those three books, the Blue Peter Book of the
Year will be chosen.
听

The Judging Process
The group of adult judges decide on a shortlist from which the Young
Judges select their category winners and the overall Blue Peter Book
of the Year.
听
Previous Winners
The Blue Peter Book of the Year was won by Geraldine McCaughrean in
2000 for her retelling of The Pilgrim聮s Progress, William Nicholson
in 2001 for The Windsinger, Nicky Singer in 2002 for Feather Boy and
Philip Reeve in 2003 for Mortal Engines.

General information
Books written and/or illustrated by writers/illustrators resident in
the UK and Ireland and published in paperback between June 2003 and
May 2004 are eligible.
听
More than 200 titles were submitted by publishers.
