大象传媒 Radio Derby's Money Mountain makes a million

大象传媒 Radio Derby's annual Money Mountain charity appeal has officially raised more than a million pounds since it was launched 21 years ago.

Just before 5.00pm yesterday (10 October) - during this year's live on-air auction - a successful bid for a meal for two by Peter Farley of Mickleover in Derby took the sum past the million pound mark.

He was presented with an inscribed piece of crystal to mark the occasion.

Listeners bid for donated items all weekend during Radio Derby's marathon broadcast.

At the close of Sunday's auction 拢36,839 had been raised so far this year.

"It's hard to believe that Money Mountain has raised a million pounds," says Simon Cornes, Editor, 大象传媒 Radio Derby.

"We never cease to be amazed by the extraordinary generosity of our listeners.

"Over the years Money Mountain has become a real institution and we look forward to it continuing for many years to come."

This year there are 12 beneficiaries of Money Mountain, more than in previous years.

They are:

Derby Shop Mobility: provides the loan of powered scooters and wheelchairs to people with impaired mobility. This will allow users to enjoy the shops and other amenities in Derby City Centre.

South Derbyshire Mental Health Association: operates from Bank House, Swadlincote where they provide a drop in centre for adults with mental health issues. They want to set up an information technology and printing workshop which will provide training in basic computer use and provide opportunities to learn new skills in digital arts.

Youlgrave Silver Band: an amateur village band which plays for annual village events for the benefit of residents and visitors. They teach and encourage young and old to learn to play and the players range in age from teens to 80 year olds.

Dwarf Athletic Association East Midlands: promotes and develops sport for people of restricted growth to enable them to enter and compete in sport on an equal footing.

City of Derby Swimming Club: teaches young people aged three and a half upwards to swim.

Derby City and District Talking Newspaper Association: would like to replace some of the audio cassettes they use, some of which are between five and ten years old.

Ilkeston Stroke Club: wants to take 17 members and carers for a short break to Llandudno in December to a hotel equipped for disabled people.

Norbury and Roston Pre-School: wants to buy outdoor equipment for an outside play area project they are working on.

Calver Chapel Youth Club: would like to buy a new snooker and table tennis table.

Smalley Pre-School Playgroup: wants to buy educational toys for the children who use the group.

Eyam First Response Team: a group of local volunteers trained by St John Ambulance to respond to calls from the emergency services to go directly to someone feeling unwell.

Riverside Club, Ashbourne: aims to provide social activities for people with learning and/or physical disabilities. They're taking club members for their annual pantomime trip to Derby Assembly Rooms.

The Money Mountain Appeal (registered charity 1103168) has been running since 1983.
