大象传媒 Radio York has struck an unprecedented deal to be the official station
for Royal Ascot when the prestigious event comes to York this summer.
The partnership with Ascot Racecourse will see Radio York broadcast
50 hours of dedicated output, live from York Racecourse.
Programmes will run from 9.00am to 7.00pm on each of the five race
days (14-18 June).
They will include detailed analysis of runners and riders, commentary
on all the races, coverage of the Royal Procession, celebrity interviews
and a wide range of features.
A key aspect of the coverage will be extra travel bulletins across
the day, to manage the expected traffic influx.
The information will be provided by staff from the City of York Council,
which is to base a special team at Radio York for the occasion.
To sustain the extra service, the station is splitting its output.
Radio York at Royal Ascot will broadcast on 666AM, with normal programmes
continuing on all other frequencies: 103.7, 104.3 and 95.5FM, and 1260AM.
Both sets of output will also be streamed live via the 大象传媒 website
for North Yorkshire - bbc.co.uk/northyorkshire.
The Royal Ascot programmes are expected to attract listeners from around
the world.
A special team of presenters and reporters is being formed for the
occasion including well-known racing pundit Rupert Bell
and event expert Mike Vince.
Radio York will also draw on the resources of the wider 大象传媒, which
covers Royal Ascot on network TV and Radio Five Live.
Radio York's Managing Editor Matt Youdale is leading plans for
the special coverage.
Matt said: "We are absolutely delighted. Royal Ascot will be the biggest
event in York since the Pope visited the city in 1982.
"The 300,000 visitors will inject many tens of millions of pounds
into the local economy - but will also place huge pressure on local
facilities.
"This venture will fit in perfectly with our community links and public
remit.
"We will help the authorities deal with any traffic issues, as
well as bringing the racing and colour of Royal Ascot to anyone who
cannot be there.
"It will be hard work - but also great fun!"
Nick Smith, Head of Public Relations at Ascot Racecourse, shares the
delight with Radio York: "Ascot has a long-standing strong relationship
with the 大象传媒 and we're delighted to be linking up with Radio York to
create the official radio station for the Royal Meeting.
"The breadth of coverage that Radio York is able to provide over such
a wide radius across the Yorkshire region will enable us to update racegoers
and regular road users with all the traffic news before and after racing.
"Radio York will play an integral part in our concerted efforts
to ensure that everyone is informed as best as possible.
"Everyone at Radio York has really embraced the event and we couldn't
wish for a more professional outfit with which to work."
