Background


Sarah Waters

Sarah Waters' first novel, Tipping The Velvet, adapted in three parts by Andrew Davies, was shown in 2002 on 大象传媒 TWO.

It received considerable critical success and achieved one of the highest ratings for a drama on 大象传媒 TWO in recent years.

It starred Keeley Hawes, Rachael Stirling and Jodhi May and told the story of Victorian music hall performer Nan Astley's search for love.

Fingersmith is Sarah Waters' third novel and was nominated for the Booker Prize and the Orange Prize in 2002.

In 2003, Sarah was named one of Granta's Best of Young British Writers, was the recipient of the South Bank Award for Literature 2003 and was named Author of the Year at the 2003 British Book Awards.

Sally Head Productions

Set up in 1997 by Sally Head, Gwenda Bagshaw, John Howard and Sarah Simpson and based at Twickenham Film Studios, Sally Head Productions (SHP) produced Tipping The Velvet in 2002 for 大象传媒 TWO and has gone on to produce Fingersmith for 大象传媒 ONE.

Previous productions include The Return for ITV - for which Julie Walters was awarded the Best Actress Award by the BPG - Four Fathers starring Tony Doyle and Neil Dudgeon, Plastic Man starring John Thaw and Sorcha Cusack, The Mayor of Casterbridge starring Ciaran Hinds and Jodhi May and The Cry starring Sarah Lancashire for ITV.

In 2003 Sally Head Productions won European Producer of the Year Award at the Monte Carlo TV Festival.
