大象传媒 Radio 1 has announced The Residency, a dance music slot that will be the home of six new shows broadcast on rotation every week.

The Residency will be championed by Pete Tong who initially invited each DJ to record demos at Radio 1.

Pete announced the line-up to Radio 1 listeners on his show and will act as mentor to the six.

The new slot has been designed to ensure Radio 1 continues to champion the most important new dance music genres from the UK, whilst also giving new and emerging talent their first chance to broadcast on national radio.

Each show will play once every six weeks for a total of six shows, after 36 weeks the entire line-up will be reviewed by Pete Tong with possible DJ additions, new genres and changes to be announced.

The Residency will take over from Dreem Teem's The Soulful Sessions.

Dreem Teem members Spoony, Timmi Magic and Mikee B joined Radio 1 in 2001.

Spoony will continue his weekend breakfast show and the remaining members will leave the station in mid-April.

The new show (Sunday mornings, 3.00-5.00) will be hosted by the following DJs, in order of rotation:

Eddie Halliwell - across the board from trance, techno to hard dance;

Nic Fanciulli - acid house and techno;

Jon O'Bir - progressive/uplifting trance

Kutski - underground hard dance/hardcore;

Crissy Criss - drum & bass/jungle

Trophy Twins - all genres of house, from funky to tribal.

Ian Parkinson, Radio 1's head of Specialist, Speech and 1Xtra, said: "I am delighted to welcome The Residency DJs to the station.

"The addition of this slot will make our specialist music schedule the most exciting listen possible.

"The line-up have exceptional talent and cover genres that will appeal to a huge cross-section of our audience.

"Dreem Teem have hosted a great show over the past four years, I'd like to thank them for their work and wish them all the best."

Pete Tong added: "I feel proud to be involved in The Residency from start to finish. The plan with the show is to stay fresh and react to what's hot out there.

"Nic and Eddie were made Radio 1 Residents a year ago and have played at many of our live events, they've now got the chance to shine as broadcasters for the first time.

"The other DJs are equally promising and will cover genres across both underground and mainstream dance.

"I look forward to watching them grow over the next eight months or so."

The Residency will be on Sunday mornings, 3.00 to 5.00, from Sunday 1 May.
