大象传媒 Radio Shropshire will be celebrating its 20th anniversary on 23
April 2005.
The Shrewsbury-based station - serving all the communities of Shropshire,
from Whitchurch in the north to Ludlow in the south - has been on air
since 23 April 1985.
It took just six years for Radio Shropshire to rise from its beginnings
to become the biggest station in the county.
Today around 114,000 of Shropshire's 369,000 adult population make
it their station of choice, with a huge 25 per cent of the county's
radio listeners tuning in to Eric Smith's popular Breakfast
Show (6.00-9.00am weekdays and Saturdays 6.30-10.00am).
Much has happened since Radio Shropshire first became the county's
favourite radio station in 1991. But even today, when there are more
radio stations than ever before for audiences to choose from, Radio
Shropshire regularly attracts the biggest audience in the county.
While its main mast transmits on 96FM from the top of Wrekin, Radio
Shropshire's ambition to reach as many listeners as possible persuaded
the station to erect new transmitters in hard-to-reach areas in the
south of the county in 2002.
Since then, people in the Clun area have been listening on 104.1FM,
those in Church Stretton tune in on 90FM, while people in Ludlow listen
to the station on 95FM.
Managing Editor Tim Pemberton said: "This shows our commitment to serving
the whole of the county. Shropshire is a great big place and we want
to reflect the rich diversity of news, stories and events that shape
people's lives here.
"At the same time we are keen to maintain the 大象传媒's reputation
for high quality local programmes and innovation as we look to the future."
It's not just through the airwaves that Salopians are connecting with
their favourite radio station. The popular Where I Live website
has seen massive growth since its launch in December 2001 - bbc.co.uk/shropshire
now regularly attracts 20,000 users every week.
