Who's the best? Listeners decide!

大象传媒 Radio York is searching for a new presenter - and the listeners will have the final say.

Hot on the heels of Fame Academy, the 大象传媒 local station for North Yorkshire is launching DJ Academy, to find bright new talent to present a new Saturday show.

Three young hopefuls will each get the chance to do the show in turn.

Listeners will be encouraged to listen, and then to vote for their favourite presenter.

The prize for the winner is the chance to present the show on a more regular basis.

The contenders are: Jay Robey, aged 26, Will Cook (18) and Ricky Marshall (19.) All are from the York area.

Jay Robey and Will Cook already know each other well, as they work as weekend Broadcast Assistants at Radio York, providing production support for a range of programmes.

Ricky spent time at Radio York on work experience and is taking time out before beginning a broadcasting degree course in London.

The trio will make their DJ Academy debut in a special show on May Day Bank Holiday (Monday 2 May, 2.00-5.00pm).

With all three in the studio at the same time, it's bound to be lively!

The lads will then present solo in the regular DJ Academy slot, 4.00 to 6.00pm on Saturdays, with each doing four programmes in a 12-week period.

All three have been challenged to use their own style and ideas to make their shows distinctive.

Listeners will be able to cast their vote via bbc.co.uk/northyorkshire where the DJ Academy programmes will be streamed live.

The site will also carry features, telling more about the contestants and their respective shows.

The winner will be announced on Radio York in the week commencing 25 July, with the successful presenter taking over the programme on a permanent basis from Saturday 30 July.

DJ Academy was the idea of Radio York Managing Editor Matt Youdale.

Matt said: "We have some very talented people already associated with the station, who have huge potential as presenters.

"It is often hard for them to get the right opportunities. This seems like a good way of solving that problem.

"I really hope the listeners will enter into the spirit of this. We want all the lads to get lots of votes. The more there are, the more confident we can be that the right man will win in the end."

大象传媒 Radio York broadcasts on 103.7, 104.3 and 95.5FM, and on bbc.co.uk.northyorkshire.
