大象传媒 WM's Bank Holiday Mad Day - family fun for free

It was a huge success last time round and, with sunny weather forecast, this year's Mad About Music is bound to be an even hotter event. And what's more - it's all free!

The musical fun day out for all the family (Bank Holiday Monday, 2 May) spills from stages in Brindleyplace and the Mailbox onto the canals in and around the city.

Samba down to the canalside to hear a variety of music, from gospel to reggae, buskers to big brass bands. The music reflects the vast array of styles and cultures in the Midlands.

Blast off is at noon, when the award-winning Woolley Pritchard Sovereign brass band arrive on the main stage in Brindleyplace.

Swaggering in behind them are Chinese lion dancers, who are later followed by the thudding, African drums of Babatunde.

The young-at-heart are sure to enjoy the bouncy castle in Brindleyplace plus the face painting, inflatable sumo wrestling and balloon modelling.

Fans of the beautiful game can also pick up a few tips to improve their football skills with Birmingham City FC.

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's trombonist Alwyn Green does amazing things with a piece of old hosepipe - he'll be holding a mini-masterclass in the 大象传媒 Public Space between 1.30pm and 2.00pm, where he untangles the mystery of how the trombone works.

While 大象传媒 WM's Danny Kelly broadcasts live from the event for his show between 1.00pm and 4.00pm, other regular presenters enjoying the fun include Adrian Goldberg, Jenny Jones, Jenny Wilkes, Nikki Tapper and Satnam Rana.

Jenny Wilkes, who is also the event producer, says: "The fantastic cross-cultural make-up of Birmingham is reflected in its amazing range of performers and musicians.

"The event captures the essence of our vibrant city in a

fun-filled afternoon for all the family. There really is something for everyone - especially if, like us, you're Mad About Music!"

For more information, call 大象传媒 WM Action on 08453 030 030.

Mad About Music takes place between noon and 6.00pm on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May.

It is supported by Arts Council England, 大象传媒 Midlands Today, Birmingham City Council, Brindleyplace and The Mailbox.

大象传媒 WM broadcasts on 95.6FM and can also be heard at bbc.co.uk/england/radiowm.
