Dance couple Joseph from Nottingham and Sadie from Leeds danced their way to success in the very first Strictly Dance Fever final tonight on 大象传媒 ONE (Saturday 4 June 2005).

They waltzed away with a cheque for 拢50,OOO and a starring role with a touring dance company.

Joseph and Sadie delighted the judges and viewing public in a dazzling display of dance.

They performed their favourite dance, the Lindyhop, and their own freestyle number which put them at the top of the leader board with 79 out of a maximum 80 points and their cheeky Charleston which gave them the edge on the night.

Sadie said: "All I have ever wanted to do is to be a dancer. This competition has helped me expand my dance knowledge and winning is an amazing dream come true."

Joseph explained: "Winning this competition means that this chapter of my life can finally start. This competition has been a long, hard journey.

"We have had many ups and downs and winning this means everything to me and my family. I just want to make my little girl proud."

Graham Norton presented Joseph and Sadie with the winning trophy.

Graham said: "I've been truly amazed at the standard of dance they've achieved over the last eight weeks and their sheer enthusiasm, learning a new dance style each week has been no mean feat.

"Congratulations to Joseph and Sadie and well done to all the couples who took part, they've gone through so much."

As part of the life changing prize package the dance couple will spend a day behind the scenes of a top West End production with Arlene Phillips and perform as backing dancers on Top Of The Pops.

The three finalists were whittled down from more than 80,000 people who applied to take part in Strictly Dance Fever.

It was open to non-professional dancers who auditioned all over the country at the start of the year.

Out of the 30 dance couples who performed in the first three audition programmes only ten couples made it through to the main competition.

Each week the couples were put through their paces by the dance coaches, Kevan Allen and Vanessa Leagh Hicks, who guided them in the rules and basic steps of a variety of dance styles, including Cuban Salsa, Boogie Woogie, Argentine Tango, Disco, Lambada, Lindyhop, Jitterbug and the Shag.

Kevan described Joseph and Sadie as "powerful, dynamic, strong and a joy to watch. They are the funkiest and sassiest couples in the competition."

Vanessa added: "They are both great commercial dancers, and Sadie is the sexiest dancer in the competition. The girl oozes sex appeal."

The winning dance couple begin their professional dance contract with the Burn The Floor dance company and will start touring next year.

Burn The Floor was created in 1999 and has toured in 15 countries and sold more than two millions tickets worldwide.

A combination of dance styles, from Viennese Waltzes and heart-pumping Jitterbugs and Jives to cutting edge Cha Chas and Salsas, Burn The Floor is performed by 13 dynamic dance couples completely re-inventing dance styles from the past.

In the Strictly Dance Fever final, Danny and Jodie from Liverpool made it into second place dancing the Milonga and James and Claire from Scotland were in third place with the Cuban Salsa, in a nail biting competition that generated more than a million viewer votes.

The Strictly Dance Fever judges Arlene Phillips, Luca Tommassini, Stacey Haynes and Jason Gardiner described the winning couple as ''incredible and inventive, they were so hot tonight they deserved to win.''

Strictly Dance Fever is a 大象传媒 Format Entertainment production for 大象传媒 ONE. The executive producer is Karen Smith.
