Mark Thompson, the 大象传媒 Director-General, has today (18 July 2005) announced the appointment of Roger Mosey as the new Director of 大象传媒 Sport.

Roger Mosey joins 大象传媒 Sport from 大象传媒 News, where he has been Head of TV News since January 2000, with responsibility for output across the One, Six and Ten O'Clock news, Newsnight and News 24.

He was the Controller of Radio Five Live when it was named Sony National Radio Station of the Year in 1998, and he's a former Editor of the Today programme.

Roger Mosey will become the leader of 大象传媒 Sport as it progresses through the World Cup, to the Olympics in Beijing and in the build up to the 2012 Olympics in London.

He will be responsible for developing and strengthening Sport's multi-media, multi-platform programmes and services and leading 大象传媒 Sport into the future, including the move to Manchester.

大象传媒 Sport currently has a large rights portfolio, including the rights to the World Cup up to and including 2014; the Olympics up to and including 2012; Wimbledon; Six Nations; Open Golf; the FA Cup; Premier League football and the Grand National.

Mark Thompson said: "Sport is fundamental to what the 大象传媒 is about, and we are committed to bringing the big national sporting moments to the UK.

"Roger Mosey's experience and passion will be invaluable in leading the Sport Division through its imminent and long term challenges."

Roger Mosey said: "I'm delighted to be moving to 大象传媒 Sport at such an exciting time, after the London Olympics decision and with the World Cup and Commonwealth Games coming up next year.

"I grew up listening to and watching 大象传媒 Sport, and I loved my time on Radio Five Live. It's essential for the 大象传媒 that it's the place people come to for big national sports moments, and I know 大象传媒 Sport will continue to deliver that with style."
