Popular 大象传媒 Wales weather presenter Derek Brockway
has revealed that he actually worked for the military before embarking
on a career in TV weather forecasting.
听
"Most people are surprised to find out that I'm actually
a Flight Lieutenant," says Derek.
听
"I was out in the Falklands in 1993 working for the
Met Office and part of our work was for the military."
听
He's a long way from the Falklands now and Derek is
glad to be back home in Wales: "I'm proud of being Welsh: I love Wales."
听
Not only is Derek on 大象传媒 ONE Wales every day, he can
also be heard several times a day on 大象传媒 Radio Wales.
听
"If you're Welsh, you should tune in to Radio Wales,"
he says.
听
"You can hear Welsh people who are proud of their country and
there's something for everybody: great music, great entertainment and
of course me reading the weather!"
听
Derek first became interested in the weather aged eight,
during the drought of 1976.
听
"I used to drive my parents bonkers when they were watching
TV because I would switch the channel over to watch the latest weather," he says.
听
Although being a TV weatherman is a bit different from
a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF, there is one thing that the Falklands
had that Derek can still enjoy in Wales: the rain.
听
"I like the rain, and there's plenty of it in Wales!
No two days are the ever the same and I love telling people to keep
their brolly handy or slap on the sun cream!"
