Radio 1 and 1Xtra exclusively host first offerings from the 大象传媒 Archive
听
大象传媒 Radio 1 and 1Xtra announced today the availability of nearly 100 programme extracts from the 大象传媒 archives, made freely available for the UK public to use under the terms of the newly-launched Creative Archive Licence.
听
The Creative Archive Licence allows people within the UK to watch, download and edit the clips and programming for non-commercial purposes.
听
People interested in being creative with 大象传媒 material will be free to download and mix that footage and use it as the fuel for their own creative endeavours.
听
The footage will go live on the Radio 1 and 1Xtra websites as of Thursday 8 September when a VJ (Video Jockey) competition will launch.
听
The stations will be inviting listeners to download all the 大象传媒 clips and build a three-minute VJ mix from them.
听
The best mix (judges include Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, 1Xtra DJ L Double and professional VJ Tomas Roope from Tomato) will win VJ equipment and the winner will VJ live to a mix of their choice on Radio 1 or 1Xtra.
听
The competition will run for a month at bbc.co.uk/radio1 and bbc.co.uk/1Xtra.
听
The footage available is taken from a whole host of 大象传媒 programmes and includes a wealth of material covering natural history, wildlife, science, locations, art and more.
听
To aid the creativity of the audience, there are also gems including shots of cityscapes, sunsets, seascapes and many other stunning visuals.
听
To ensure that the material is available to as wide an audience as possible, it will be made available in QuickTime, Windows Media and MPEG1 formats.
听
Andy Parfitt, Controller, Radio 1, said: "It's a great opportunity for Radio 1. We are increasing the visual aspects of Radio 1 and 1Xtra and this is going to be spot on.
听
"My experience of the creativity of our audience leaves me in no doubt that together we'll make some great material."
听
Paul Gerhardt, Director of the Creative Archive Licence Group, said: "We're delighted to be working first with such an innovative site on bbc.co.uk: one which reaches a young, media-aware audience who are naturally tuned in to the idea of content being available when they want it, and who will welcome the right to shape it to meet their needs."
听
The 大象传媒 will be releasing further content across other areas of bbc.co.uk over the next 18 months.

Notes to Editors on the Competition
听
1. Mixes must be three minutes long and backed to a mix of either unsigned music from OneMusic or commercial music clips no longer than 30 seconds in length. The quality of the music mix is unimportant and will not be judged upon.
听
2. Mixes must be received by the end of the closing day, 10 October 2005.
听
3. The winner will be announced on 24 October and can choose their prize: 拢250 worth of VJing equipment which the 大象传媒 will order for them. The second part of the prize is to VJ live along to a mix of the winner's choice on Radio 1 or 1Xtra. This mix will be streamed live and, subject to music rights, be available on demand for seven days.
听
4. A selection of the best mixes will go online along with an example mix.

Notes to Editors on the Creative Archive Licence
听
1. The Creative Archive Licence is managed by the 大象传媒, the bfi, Channel 4 and the Open University and other members of the Creative Archive Licence Group to make their content (moving images, audio and stills) available for download under the terms of a single, shared user licence scheme. A full version of the Creative Archive Licence is available .
听
2. You are welcome to share the creations you make with this content and, if you do so, please make sure you make them available under the (same) terms of the Creative Archive Licence, and that you acknowledge the 大象传媒 as the original creators of the material. The footage may not be used for campaigning or to defame others.
听
3. The Creative Archive Licence Group was launched on 13 April 2005, by founding members the 大象传媒, the bfi, Channel 4 and the Open University. Membership is available to major national collections, broadcasters, and commercial organisations who wish to share content with the public on the same terms.
听
4. The 大象传媒 is currently piloting the release of content under the terms of the Creative Archive Licence over an 18-month period, after which its Board of Governors will assess the service according to its public value.
听
5. The material is made freely available for those based within the UK for their own not-for-profit personal and/or not-for-profit educational use, and non-endorsement purposes. The rules in brief plus the full terms of the Creative Archive Licence are available on the Creative Archive Licence Group's site, creativearchive.bbc.co.uk
