大象传媒 invites football fans' video views for Points West

In a new trial project making use of 3G mobile telephone technology, 大象传媒 Points West is inviting local football fans to send their views on weekend matches to the studio as video clips by mobile phone.

The Footie Feedback trial starts from Saturday 7 January 2006.

Points West aims to enhance its sports coverage through the trial - one of the first of its kind across the 大象传媒's English Regions.

Viewers are invited to send in views via their mobile phones to a studio inbox, where the team will select the best clips for broadcast in the Points West 6.30pm evening bulletin on 大象传媒 ONE, broadcast each Monday after weekend fixtures.

Fans wanting to give their views from 3G phones after matches have finished can follow some simple instructions to make clips suitable for broadcast:

make sure you have sufficiently good lighting on your face, without strong backlighting (eg, avoid having the sun behind you)

try to film your clip somewhere away from loud background noises

tell us at the start of the clip your name, where you are from, and clarify any tricky spellings of names

keep your clip to under 40 seconds and as succinct as possible

keep it clean - obviously!

video-call with your comments to the following number: 077 23 630 630 (your standard video call rate applies).

If you have not got a 3G phone, you can still join in. You can e-mail your phone video clip to pointswest@bbc.co.uk (standard sending rates apply).

The 大象传媒's terms and conditions for any broadcast use of viewers' clips are described in detail on Points West's website at bbc.co.uk/pointswest.

Points West's sports correspondent David Passmore believes the new trial will add some real spice to the programme's football round-up.

He says: "It's fantastic that, through the evolving technology of 3G, we can now provide a way for punters to come straight through to the programme with their views - rather than us going to them armed with a camera.

"We'd already pioneered the use of 3G phones for our newsgathering at Points West, something that's now been adopted more widely by 大象传媒 journalists elsewhere.

"This next step - having viewers send their video clips to us for broadcast - is the next obvious evolution.

"It's an exciting development and I can't wait to see some heated views from our local fans!"
