Radio 1 today announced the highlights for its live events calendar for 2006.

In addition to bringing the widest range of new live music to its audience, Radio 1 has also committed to incorporating a large multi-platform element to all of its live events across the year.

For 2006, Radio 1 is focussing on reaching all regions of the UK and complementing this with the pick of the best new music events from around the world.

Highlights for the UK include Radio 1's Big Weekend, a nationwide DJ club tour, T In The Park, Global Gathering, Reading & Leeds Festivals and John Peel Day.

Beyond the UK, Radio 1 will return to South By South West, Ibiza and Mallorca.

In addition, this summer The Chris Moyles Show will be broadcasting live from Germany during the World Cup.

This year, Radio 1 will also be offering a series of multi-platform and interactive elements at each of its live events.

Key offerings will include:

Red button viewing By pushing the red button on your remote control, you will be able to watch recorded broadcasts of live events for up to one week after transmission.

Mobile content The latest audio, video and pictures sent straight to your phone

Bluetooth Broadcast Multimedia content and event information delivered to audiences at events via Bluetooth

Broadband Web streaming of events live and highlights packages following their broadcast.

Daniel Heaf, Interactive Editor, said: "Over the last few years, we have seen Radio 1 develop its interactive elements to a stage where we can now truly call ourselves a multi-platform broadcaster.

"Recent events such as The Chart Show Live, Gorillaz, Kanye West and Coldplay have shown us that our audience have a huge appetite for this type of broadcasting and we are determined to meet this demand."

Jason Carter, Editor, Live Music and Events added: "This year we wanted to get to as many parts of the UK as possible. There is such a huge amount of new homegrown talent around at the moment that we are determined to broadcast as much of it live as we possibly can."
