大象传媒 World Service marks the start of the Chinese New Year with a new dedicated portal for English language learning in China - bbcchina.com.cn.

The new site - jointly produced by the 大象传媒 Chinese service and 大象传媒 Learning English - provides tailor-made, bilingual content for Chinese users.

It is aimed at students, teachers and young professionals aged 15 to 35, and engages visitors with a variety of interactive learning tools including quizzes and word games.

bbcchina.com.cn also includes content on the social and cultural background of the UK and beyond - informing those planning to study or work outside China - and caters for people who want to study in their own way and time, by enabling content to be downloaded onto MP3 players.

Head of 大象传媒 Chinese, Lorna Ball, says the 大象传媒 has brought two expert teams together to meet the needs of young people in China.

"We know from experience that there is a huge demand in China for English language learning and for people to learn more about Britain," she says.

"By combining the strengths of 大象传媒 Chinese and 大象传媒 Learning English teams, we are able to meet that demand and develop a multimedia site that is informative, exciting and fun."

Alison Konieczny, Editor of the China Team at 大象传媒 Learning English, says the 大象传媒 has considerable experience of English language teaching in China.

"We have talked to students and English language learners all over China to ensure we developed teaching materials that are fun to work with but have a serious aim of delivering results," she says.

"bbcchina.com.cn features a fantastic range of exercises, games and quizzes which people can use on their own or share with their friends - competing for the highest score."

As bbcchina.com.cn launched, subjects explored included Mozart's life in London and speculation on the new coach for England's national football team.

There were also entertainment news updates and a feature on how the UK celebrates the Chinese New Year.
