大象传媒 Local Radio stations in the Midlands are taking inspiration from the 大象传媒 television programme which sees celebrities research their family background.
听
In conjunction with the flagship 大象传媒 TWO series Who Do You Think You Are? they
are running a series of events for 大象传媒 Family History Weekend.
听
The aim is to get people started on the road to finding out more about their
family history and to help them think about how they are personally connected to
the great themes of Britain's history.
听
People are encouraged not only to find out who their ancestors were, but to learn
more about what their relatives' lives were like.
听
This series of events will also focus on some of the key areas where people get
stuck during this process and will offer ideas for becoming unstuck.
听
大象传媒 Local Radio stations in Derby, Hereford & Worcester, Northampton, Nottingham and Shropshire are taking part.
听
Who Do You Think You Are? is a flagship 大象传媒 TWO series, broadcast from 11 January
to 15 February.
听

听
大象传媒 Radio Derby is holding two special events on Saturday 11 February in Burton and Matlock.
听
Burton Library will be open from 9.00am to 4.00pm, with experts from a variety of
organisations on hand to give free advice on family tracing.
听
Representatives from
Staffordshire Records Office, local family history societies and the
Commonwealth War Graves Commission will be at the library to help people delve
deep into their families past and discover exactly who they are.
听
Staff from
Pickfords House museum will also be on hand to give advice on costume and
clothes, thus helping people who have old pictures identify when they were taken.
听
Radio Derby's 大象传媒 Bus will also be at Burton Library with displays and
computer research facilities to help people who really want to get the chance to
sink their teeth into the fascinating world of genealogy.
听
The demand in Matlock for the event there has been so great that the three group
sessions are fully booked, but if listeners cannot get to the Burton event and

大象传媒 Hereford & Worcester is helping its listeners to research their family tree
on Saturday 11 February between 10.00am and 4.00pm.
听
Listeners are invited along to The Atrium at Maylords in Hereford where experts
will be on hand to guide visitors through tracing their family history using the
web and accessing archives.
听
Booklets and literature to complement the series will
also be available for any budding genealogists.
听
The surgeries are a fantastic opportunity for family history beginners taking
their first steps in researching their ancestry, and also for those people
motivated by the last series who are having difficulties with web-based
enquiries.
听
Other groups and societies will also be around on the day to give help and
advice on how to get started in tracing a family tree.
听
They are - Herefordshire
Archive Service, Worcester Museum and History Centre, Hereford Cathedral,
Hereford Family History Society and Malvern Family History Society.
听

Listeners are invited along to the Tresham Institute on Windmill Avenue in
Kettering where experts will be on hand to guide visitors through tracing their
family history using the web and accessing archives.
听
Booklets and literature to
complement the series will also be available for any budding genealogists.
听
Radio Northampton's Sue Marchant is also broadcasting her weekend programme live
from the event between 9.00am and noon.
听

Libraries experts - will also be at the event to share her experiences and to present her
findings so far.

大象传媒 Radio Nottingham
will be holding special
events on Saturday 11 February in Nottingham and Mansfield.
听
The first event will
be at the Nottinghamshire Archives, County House from 9.15am to 12.45pm. The second will be
at the Mansfield library from 1.00 to 3.30pm.
听
The events will be crammed full of activities for the whole family to help them
delve deep into their families past and discover exactly who they are - really
getting the chance to sink their teeth into the fascinating world of genealogy.
听
Archivists and historians will be on hand to give advice on family tracing.
听
At
Nottingham there will be experts from the Nottingham Family History Society and
staff from the archives to help you.
听
In the afternoon at Mansfield Library there
will be Phillip Jones, independent family history expert, and representatives
from the Mansfield Family History Society, who can help you take your search
further.
听

local historian who will be delving into the history of the area through pictures
on 15 February at the Coalport Village Hall and on 23 February at
Coalbrookdale Community Centre.
