Life on Mars, the hit time-travelling cop show, has been recommissioned for a second series on 大象传媒 ONE.
听
The new series - from Kudos, the makers of Spooks and Hustle - is eight x 60 minutes.
听
It will again follow fish-out-of-water DI Sam Tyler, a detective who was catapulted into 1973 after a car accident in 2006.
听
John Simm and Philip Glenister return as the driven and by-the-book Tyler and his off the cuff, fist-wielding, Neanderthal boss, Gene Hunt.
听
Also returning are Liz White as the intelligent and resourceful WPC Annie Cartwright, Dean Andrews as recently demoted DC Ray Carling and Marshall Lancaster as the keen to learn DC Chris Skelton.
听
Jane Featherstone, co-executive producer of Life on Mars and joint MD of Kudos, says: "We are delighted to be returning to 1973 where we can join Sam and Gene in putting on our flares and revving up the Cortina.
听
"Audiences seem to have really taken to the two detectives and their chalk and cheese approach to policing.
听
"Some of their theories as to what has really happened to Sam have been intriguing and, hopefully, they will be equally fascinated to see what is in store for Sam, Gene and the rest of CID in this new instalment."
听
Claire Parker, co-executive producer, says: "We have been overwhelmed by the fantastic reaction and genuine enthusiasm for Life on Mars that we have received from audiences and critics alike.
听
"We are thrilled that our outstanding writers and incredibly talented cast are so eager to return for another trip back to the Seventies."
听
Jane Tranter, Controller, 大象传媒 Drama Commissioning, says: "John Simm, Philip Glenister and Kudos have made Life on Mars the most talked about drama of 2006.
听
"The unique and clever central clash of 2006 and 1973 sensibilities has totally captured the imagination of the audience and I am thrilled we have a new series of extraordinary performances, flares and Seventies cars to look forward to."
听
The new series will reunite the same team of writers who worked on the critically acclaimed series one: co-creators and writers Matthew Graham, Tony Jordan and Ashley Pharoah and writer of episode seven Chris Chibnall, alongside two new writers to the series - Julie Rutterford (Hustle) and Guy Jenkin (The Private Life of Samuel Pepys).
听
Claire Parker, producer of series one, will be a co-executive producer with Jane Featherstone and Matthew Graham and a new producer, Cameron Roach (Footballers' Wives, Bad Girls) has been appointed.
听
Filming on the new series starts in April in Manchester and continues until September.
