Manchester Passion stars Keith Allen, Darren Morfitt, Tim Booth and Nicholas Bailey

Keith Allen hosts Manchester Passion

Keith Allen is set to star in Manchester Passion, a live event to be broadcast at Easter on 大象传媒 THREE.

Manchester Passion is a contemporary retelling of the last few hours of Jesus' life using popular music from the cream of Manchester bands from Joy Division to The Smiths and Oasis.

Actor Keith Allen will present the event live from Albert Square in Manchester city centre.

Allen played the boss of London Records in the film 24 Hour Party People and Tony Whitman in 大象传媒 THREE's hit series Bodies. He was also co-writer of New Order's World Cup song, World In Motion.

The role of Judas goes to Tim Booth, lead singer of James, whose hit song Sit Down features in the production.

Jesus is played by Darren Morfitt (55 Degrees North, The Government Inspector) and St Peter is played by Nicholas Bailey (Dr Antony Trueman in EastEnders).

Darren Morfitt says: "I would never have thought that I would play Jesus. It's an interesting journey to interpret the role. It's not a case of having long flowing locks and a white gown, it's not a case of looking 'holy'.

"It's more about finding a truthful way of expressing thought processes and emotion. And the fact that it's live and at street level is pretty full on - anything could happen!"

Manchester Passion will be broadcast live on 大象传媒 THREE at 9.00pm on Good Friday (14 April).

Members of the public who would like to participate are invited to Albert Square in Manchester from 8.00pm onwards.
