million voters across England decide who is going to represent them
in local councils for the next four years.
听
In Election Night (Thursday 4 May, 大象传媒 ONE and 大象传媒 News 24, 11.30pm-6.00am) David Dimbleby leads the 大象传媒 team
reporting live as the results come in with instant reaction from
the winners and losers.
听
Emily Maitlis reports from the biggest
battleground of the night - in London - and there will be a complete
picture of the story across the country at 12.15am and 1.30am.
听
It's a crucial night for Tony Blair and for the new party leaders David Cameron and Menzies Campbell as they face their first electoral test.
听
Jeremy Vine makes his debut as the master of virtual reality graphics - pulling together what is happening and what it means for the country as a whole.

Robinson will be on
hand to tell us what the politicians are saying and planning behind
the scenes.

The English Regions of the 大象传媒 will play a crucial role in the coverage.

There will be 24 outside broadcast facilities on the
night, featuring 120 cameras across the country.

The 12 regional
political editors will anchor coverage at key counts for Election
Night on 大象传媒 ONE, and the 6.30pm regional news programmes
will provide extensive coverage on 4 May.

The regional teams are
also working closely with 大象传媒 News 24 and will present reports
on key issues including: Health in the West Midlands where 2,700
NHS job losses have been announced; the BNP vote in the North West,
Leeds and the
West Midlands; the effects of manufacturing job losses in
the East Midlands; and the 'Green' effect in Tunbridge and Plymouth.

News 24's Chris Eakin has taken to the road on his
motorbike to profile Manchester and Winchester in advance of the
polling.

Night 2006 will feature James Naughtie and Caroline
Quinn bringing
the results as councils go to the polls.

From when the polls close to when the final results
are declared, 大象传媒 Radio Five Live and
its team of presenters and reporters at key counts offer comprehensive
coverage and analysis of the local elections.

From 10.00pm, Anita Anand reports
the early trends and the shock gains and losses.

From 1.00am, Dotun
Adebayo and the Up All Night team are on hand as the big political stories
start to take shape.

Pienaar is there throughout with big name interviews and his expert assessment of what the results might mean for the leaders, their parties and the country.

feature information on the latest political developments and campaigns. And
from Monday 24 April, videos of all of the party political broadcasts
will be also be available online.

On the site, readers can zoom in on their local area
using the Election 2006 interactive map which holds data on all 177
councils taking part in elections this year. The map will be updated
with live voting results on 4 May.

how voting works and why local elections are significant.
