Creative Archive pilots content from the 大象传媒 regional archive
Every region has been shaped by
the iconic news stories of its past. And through the Creative
Archive Licence pilot the 大象传媒 is opening its archive of news
clips from Devon, Cornwall, Lincolnshire and Humberside,
so users can freely download and keep more than 100 TV clips
for their own personal use.
听
The released clips feature key moments in local history such as dramatic scenes from the miners' strikes, incredible shots of the Torrey Canyon disaster, shocking images of devastating flooding in Boscastle and Lincolnshire, and emotional scenes as Falklands soldiers come home to their families.
听
The archive also contains interviews with celebrities such as The Beatles and key political figures such as Harold Wilson and Arthur Scargill.
听
There are also nostalgic gems like footage of holiday
makers at a Torquay holiday camp, stockbrokers - complete with bowler
hats and rolled umbrellas - skating to work during the big freeze
of 1963 and a 1964 TV report about the new fashion for boys to
have long hair!
听
This footage is not just available to watch - under the terms of the Creative
Archive Licence users can download, edit and share the clips so that the
key images of the past can be rediscovered and reshaped by a new generation.
听
Craig Henderson, from 大象传媒 Nations and Regions said: "We're opening up a really rich part of our archives for people to see, and share for the first time, so it's quite a moment.
听
"I think people will love downloading film of
the Beatles visiting Plymouth in the 1960s - first for a concert
and then as part of filming for their movie Magical Mystery Tour.
听
"The material covered in the pilot will undoubtedly
bring back a lot of local memories, and be a great source of learning
for youngsters."
听
Paul Gerhardt, Project Director
of the Creative Archive Licence Group, says: "We're really excited
to be rolling out the next phase of the Creative Archive pilot.
听
"As we make these new archives available we are
offering content not only for use in the communities in Devon and
Cornwall, Humberside and Lincolnshire but also to the UK public
as a whole.
听
"Beside the familiar programme titles, the 大象传媒's
archives have much that is relevant and useful for local history
lovers."
听
The Creative Archive Licensing Group (creativearchive.bbc.co.uk) consists
of the 大象传媒, the bfi, Channel 4, the Open University, Teachers TV, the Community
Channel and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
听
Content (moving
images, audio and stills) made available under the licence allows people
within the UK to watch, download and edit clips and programmes for non-commercial
purposes.
听
The 大象传媒's Creative Archive Licence pilot was awarded an Interactive Bafta for
Interactive Innovation, at the British Academy Television Craft Awards,
for the Open Earth Archive.
听
