Dedicated dancers enter record books in 大象传媒 ONE extravaganza
Dedication was the name of the game on Saturday night as more than 1,000 dancers
gathered in Trafalgar Square for 大象传媒 ONE's Dancing in the Street. It was a toe-tapping night of entertainment, with six new world records achieved.
听
Hosted by Bruce Forsyth and Zoe Ball, the dancers successfully broke all six
records under the watchful eyes of a team of adjudicators from the Guinness Book
of Records.
听
The records broken were:
听
Russell Sergeant from the Jiving Lindy Hoppers did 33 swing flips in a minute,
beating the previous record of 17;
听
Break-dancer Punisher achieved a brand new record for the number of consecutive
1990s - he did ten of them, spinning round in the air balancing in one hand;
听
B-Boy Steady beat his own record of 40 windmills in 30 seconds, achieving a new
total of 42;
听
大象传媒 Local Radio around the UK joined in The Big Dance Class and 8,962 dancers
have now entered the record books;
听
Children from London's Irish Step Dance clubs along with dancers from the show
successfully danced the longest ever Riverdance line increasing it from 50 to
116;
听
Finally, the most spectacular record. 800 dancers performed the Big Dance - a new
world record where 45 styles of dance were performed to the same piece of music.
It included belly dancers, salsa, swing, flamenco, African, tango, bhangra, and
even synchronised swimmers in the fountains.
听
The sensational evening also included performances from The Rocky Horror Picture
Show with audience member Chris Gavriel joining them to perform The Time Warp.
听
And the amateur dance winners of 大象传媒 New Talent's Ballroom Blitz competition
joined Anton du Beke and his Strictly Come Dancing colleagues for a very
professional performance of American Smooth.
听
The 大象传媒 broadcast came at the end of a week of events across the UK called Big
Dance, a partnership between the Mayor of London and Arts Council England.
