Meera Syal became a household name as one of the stars of spoof ´óÏó´«Ã½ chatshow, The Kumars at No 42.
Ìý
A best-selling author, Meera adapted and starred in two of her own novels for the ´óÏó´«Ã½, Anita and Me and Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee.
Ìý
She had her big break with 1991 as a writer and performer on sketch show The Real McCoy.
Ìý
Seven years later she wrote and starred in another sketch show, the award-winning Goodness Gracious Me, alongside her future husband (and Kumars collaborator) Sanjeev Bhaskar.

Meera has appeared in a wide range of TV dramas, including Band of Gold; MIT: Murder Investigation Team; Linda Green; and Fat Friends; as well as comedies All About Me; Keeping Mum; and Absolutely Fabulous.

She also starred in the title role of the factual-based drama, The Secretary Who Stole £4m.

Meera wrote the screenplay for the film Bhaji on the Beach; co-wrote ´óÏó´«Ã½ drama My Sister Wife; and penned a West End musical with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bombay Dreams, based on her book of the same name.

Meera made an unlikely appearance on Top of the Pops when the Kumars had a number one single, Spirit in the Sky, released with Gareth Gates for Comic Relief.
