The Culture Show launches search for greatest cultural icon
|
On Saturday 14 October, 大象传媒 TWO's The Culture Show launches Living Icons, a
quest to find the greatest cultural icon in the UK today.
听
From sport to film, literature to design, David Hockney to Alan Bennett, Paul
McCartney to Vivienne Westwood - who has made the biggest impact on British
culture?
听
From 14 to 30 October, viewers will be invited to nominate the figure
who they believe to be a true icon today - the only stipulations are that they
must be British and that they have played a significant part in shaping culture
in the UK.
听
The top ten icons, as nominated by the public, will be announced on The Culture
Show on Saturday 11 November.
听
The top three contenders will be unveiled at the
National Portrait Gallery on the eve of its 150th anniversary on 2 December,
and the overall winner will be announced on the final Culture Show of the
series.
听
To spark people's imagination, this Saturday's programme has asked some well-known faces for their suggestions.
听
Russell Brand reveals why his icon (and the
name of his cat) is Morrissey; Lilly Allen nominates Liam Gallagher; David
Bailey supports Damien Hirst; and Trevor Beattie argues the case for Kate Moss.
听
Viewers can nominate their greatest living icon by text on 83199 or by email to
livingicons@bbc.co.uk.

some lively debate...
听
Eddie Morgan, Executive Producer, The Culture Show, says: "This is a completely open race. We have no idea who viewers will eventually
crown Britain's greatest living icon.
听
"I think the winner will surprise us all -
and provoke a lot of argument."
