大象传媒 code of journalist ethics launched in Turkish
|
The 大象传媒 has launched a Turkish language version of its code of journalist ethics.
听
Director of 大象传媒 Global News Division, Richard Sambrook, officially launched the newly published Turkish version of Editorial Guidelines - The 大象传媒's Values And Standards at a special event at Istanbul's Bilgi University on Wednesday 2 November 2006.
听
Richard Sambrook said: "The Editorial Guidelines are the basis of 大象传媒 journalists' work, right across the world. Our British and international TV, radio and online services are guided by them every day.
听
"The guidelines are the result of decades of 大象传媒 work and experience in the field of journalism.
听
"They represent a code of ethics which, we believe, provides the necessary ground for objective and unbiased journalism, something we have strived to provide to our audiences since our earliest broadcasts.
听
"We believe that sharing this experience with our colleagues in Turkey helps to inform and facilitate a public discourse on journalism and public broadcasting."
听
Head of 大象传媒 Turkish service, Huseyin Sukan, added: "The English version of the 大象传媒 Editorial Guidelines has always been available to the public.
听
"Media professionals in Turkey - be they academics or journalists - have routinely referred to it during discussions about journalistic principles and ethics.
听
"We are now making this source available in Turkish and we hope it will be a useful service to the students and teachers of media in Turkey."
听
Rector of Bilgi University, Aydin Ugur, added: "Establishing firm foundations for a democratic life is dependent on the provision of truthful and accurate news to the public.
听
"The Turkish media is now slowly leaving behind a period when it had trouble in doing so, and it looks as if we have now drawn a line under a period when issues to do with media ethics were causing great concern to all involved.
听
"Media corporations have now begun to formulate their own codes of ethics. This is an area where the 大象传媒 excels with its deep-rooted tradition that sets the universal norms.
听
"The Turkish translation of the 大象传媒 Editorial Guidelines is an important source which could inspire those in pursuit of a way forward.
听
"Our university is justly proud to host the event introducing this document to the public."
听
Apart from a limited print run, the Turkish language edition of the Editorial Guidelines - The 大象传媒's Values And Standards is available in an electronic format from the 大象传媒 Turkish service's website, bbcturkish.com.
