Yoko Ono and Archbishop of Canterbury to guest edit Today programme

Five guest editors will again take the helm of the Today programme on 大象传媒 Radio 4 between Christmas and the New Year.

And this year, for the first time, the programme is also inviting a team of listeners to edit one edition of Today.

This year's guest editors are:

the conceptual artist Yoko Ono;

Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury;

Zac Goldsmith, Editor of the Ecologist and Conservative Party advisor;

Sir Clive Woodward, Director of Elite Performance at the British Olympic Association;

and Allan Leighton, Chairman of Royal Mail.

Among other ideas, Sir Clive Woodward will look at the state of sport in schools, Zac Goldsmith will ask whether nimbyism is a good thing and Yoko Ono will examine the idealism of the United States constitution.

Zac Goldsmith said: "The Today programme genuinely sets the agenda for the day's news and the prospect of being part of it for a day is hugely exciting.

"It will be fascinating to bring a few new ideas and perspectives to its highly perceptive audience."

Sir Clive Woodward added: "It's a real privilege to be asked to be the first sports person to guest edit Today.

"I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues at the BOA and UK Sport to find issues of interest not just to sports fans but to all listeners."

Today's regular Editor Ceri Thomas said: "Guest editors have become something of a Christmas tradition on Today. They bring their own unique expertise and new - often surprising - ideas to the editorial process.

"I'm sure this year's team of 'listener-editors' will bring a refreshing perspective, too."

Guest editors are responsible for between a third and a half of their programme's output but the normal day and night duty editors are on hand to make sure their material is newsworthy and meets the 大象传媒's Editorial Guidelines.

Each guest editor is helped to turn their ideas into radio journalism by Today's team of producers and reporters.

Previous Today programme guest editors include Bono, Anthony Minghella, Professor Stephen Hawking, the Duchess of York and David Blunkett.

Notes to Editors

The Today programme is Radio 4's flagship news and current affairs programme. Almost 6.5 million people listen to Today each week.
