Yoko Ono and Archbishop of Canterbury to guest edit Today programme
|
Five guest editors will again take the helm of the Today programme on 大象传媒 Radio 4 between
Christmas and the New Year.
听
And this year, for the first time, the programme is also inviting a team of listeners to
edit one edition of Today.
听
This year's guest editors are:
听
the conceptual artist Yoko Ono;
听
Dr Rowan
Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury;
听
Zac Goldsmith, Editor of the Ecologist
and Conservative Party advisor;
听
Sir Clive Woodward, Director of Elite
Performance at the British Olympic Association;
听
and Allan Leighton, Chairman
of Royal Mail. 听
Among other ideas, Sir Clive Woodward will look at the state of sport in
schools, Zac Goldsmith will ask whether nimbyism is a good thing and Yoko
Ono will examine the idealism of the United States constitution.
听
Zac Goldsmith said: "The Today programme genuinely sets the agenda for the
day's news and the prospect of being part of it for a day is hugely exciting.
听
"It will be fascinating to bring a few new ideas and perspectives to its
highly perceptive audience."
听
Sir Clive Woodward added: "It's a real privilege to be asked to be the first
sports person to guest edit Today.
听
"I'm looking forward to working with my
colleagues at the BOA and UK Sport to find issues of interest not just to
sports fans but to all listeners."
听
Today's regular Editor Ceri Thomas said: "Guest editors have become something
of a Christmas tradition on Today. They bring their own unique expertise and
new - often surprising - ideas to the editorial process.
听
"I'm sure this year's
team of 'listener-editors' will bring a refreshing perspective, too."
听
Guest editors are responsible for between a third and a half of their
programme's output but the normal day and night duty editors are on hand to
make sure their material is newsworthy and meets the 大象传媒's Editorial
Guidelines.
听
Each guest editor is helped to turn their ideas into radio
journalism by Today's team of producers and reporters.
听
Previous Today programme guest editors include Bono, Anthony Minghella,
Professor Stephen Hawking, the Duchess of York and David Blunkett.
听
