Radio Wales still top of the Welsh charts; Radio Cymru on the rise
|
The latest radio listening figures released today by the industry body Rajar
show that 大象传媒 Radio Wales has cemented its position as far-and-away the most
popular of all the radio stations based in Wales.
听
The station now averages 424,000 listeners per week, way ahead of any of
Wales's other radio stations.
听
With strong performances from 大象传媒 Radios 1, 2 and 4, 大象传媒 radio stations now
account for 61% of all radio listening in Wales, well above the UK
average.
听
The 大象传媒's performance was further boosted by the number of people listening to
the Welsh language radio station 大象传媒 Radio Cymru each week.
听
This has risen to
153,000 and each listener now hears Radio Cymru for an average of 15.5 hours a
week, the highest level for any 大象传媒 radio station in the UK.
听
Both 大象传媒 Wales radio stations appointed new Editors last year.

Radio Wales
Editor Sali Collins said: "We made a number of changes to our output last autumn. For instance,
Llanelli's Richard Evans now presents the Radio Wales phone-in and the Welsh
stand-up comic Rhod Gilbert from Carmarthen is now presenting a new show on
Saturday mornings.
听
"Our listeners have clearly welcomed the changes and Radio Wales shows every
sign of going from strength to strength."
听
Sian Gwynedd, Editor, Radio Cymru, said:
"One of the reasons for the increase in Radio Cymru's audience is that our
evening service, C2, which is aimed at younger listeners, has performed
particularly well.
听
"Among Welsh speakers, Radio Cymru's share of all radio listening has climbed
to 18 per cent making it clearly the most popular station for that audience."
