Pioneering Look East cameraman dies
|
One of 大象传媒 Look East's pioneering cameramen has died at his home.
听
Eric Hancock was known to colleagues and friends simply as Hank.
听
He spent more than
30 years working for the 大象传媒 regional news programme Look East in Norwich as
a sound recordist and then cameraman after he left the RAF, based at Watton. 听
Hank was one of a generation of 大象传媒 staff who brought local live news into
people's homes in new ways, helping to firmly establish Look East as the
informative entertaining programme we know today.
听
In 1995 he was honoured by the Royal Television Society with a Cameraman
of the Year award and this was followed by a Lifetime Achievement Award in
2001.
听
Hank retired in 2001 after spending many years working
alongside and encouraging young journalists who are now working for national
and regional television.
听
Tim Bishop, 大象传媒 Head of Region, says: "Hank was polite, professional and a
great ambassador for 大象传媒 Look East.
听
"He was passionate about his work, and
eager and happy to share that with anyone who asked for his help.
听
"He was
simply Hank to everyone from royalty to receptionists across the East of
England and people who worked with him will miss his warmth and wisdom."
听
Shaun Whitmore, a fellow cameraman at Look East who worked alongside Hank
for many years, adds: "Along with many others I owe my career to Hank. He was a
wonderful man and a great trainer. He will be sadly missed."
听
Eric Hancock died on Saturday 24 February 2007.
