Newsnight poll: Just 6% of people think Menzies Campbell would make the best Prime Minister

Just 6% of people questioned in a poll commissioned by Newsnight, believe the Liberal Democrat leader, Sir Menzies Campbell, would make the best Prime Minister – compared to 28% who thought Gordon Brown would be best and 29% whose preference was for David Cameron.

Ìý

The results of the ICM Research poll will be broadcast on Newsnight at 10.30pm today on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two.

Ìý

They come as the Liberal Democrats gather in Harrogate for their Spring conference and Sir Menzies Campbell marks his first anniversary as leader.

Ìý

Nearly half of those questioned (49%), asked to choose between the two, thought former leader Charles Kennedy would be a better leader of the Liberal Democrats than Sir Menzies (22%).

Ìý

More than two-thirds (67%) thought that Sir Menzies' age made no difference to his ability as leader but almost a quarter (22%) of people polled thought his age was a disadvantage when compared to David Cameron or Gordon Brown.
