Michael Crick appointed Political Editor on Newsnight
|
Michael Crick has been appointed as Political Editor on 大象传媒 Two's Newsnight.
听
Michael takes over the role following the departure of Martha Kearney who
will take over as the main presenter on 大象传媒 Radio 4's The World At One next month.
听
Michael is best known for his irreverent style of reporting on politics
and as a prolific author.
听
He has been asking politicians difficult
questions since Richard Nixon visited the Oxford Union in 1978 and
subsequently said in his memoirs that the most difficult question he faced
came from Crick.
听
Michael said: "I am delighted to be taking up this post. I'm slightly
worried I won't be able to watch United play as often but it's a great
time to be covering politics."
听
Peter Barron, Newsnight Editor, added: "Michael is one of the most
extraordinary journalists I've worked with. His political knowledge is
encyclopaedic and his first priority is always to find out more.
听
"I'm
looking forward to seeing his unique style in action as Newsnight's
Political Editor."
听
Michael has had a long and distinguished career.
听
In 1982 he was a founder
member of Channel 4 News and in 1988 became the programme's correspondent
in Washington.
听
He moved to the 大象传媒 in 1990, first on Panorama and since 1992 working for
Newsnight, where he specialises in politics.
听
He has won two Royal Television Society awards, one for his coverage of the 1988 United States election
and another in 2002 for a Panorama special programme on the life of
Jeffrey Archer.
听
He has also presented several radio programmes on a range of topics.
听
Crick's books include Militant (1984), Scargill And The Miners (1985),
Manchester United: The Betrayal of a Legend (1989), The Complete
Manchester United Trivia Fact Book (1996) and Michael Heseltine (1997).
听
His best known work is Stranger Than Fiction (1995), an independent
biography of Jeffrey Archer which is now in its fourth edition.
听
In 2002 he
published The Boss, a biography of Manchester United manager Sir Alex
Ferguson, and in 2005 he brought out In Search Of Michael Howard.
听
Born in 1958, Crick was educated at Manchester Grammar School and New
College, Oxford, where he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics, founded
the Oxford Handbook, edited Cherwell, and was President of the Oxford
Union.
