U2 rocks the church
|
Lincoln will play host to England's first U2Charist, an adapted Holy
Communion service which uses the songs of U2 in place of traditional
hymns, thanks to 大象传媒 Local Radio.
听
The idea behind the Lincoln U2Charist came about when a producer at 大象传媒
Radio Lincolnshire, Sue Edwards, heard about the phenomenon and travelled
to York Harbor, Maine in the United States to witness the worship.
听
She said: "I wanted to make it relevant to our audience, so I came up
with the idea of hosting a U2Charist here in Lincoln.
听
"There is a depth to
U2's lyrics. They've been around for three decades, so I think that's
testament to how their lyrics connect with people all over the world."
听
The U2Charist will take place at St Swithin's Church in Lincoln on
Saturday 26 May 2007.
听
A live band will perform U2 classics including I Still
Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Mysterious Ways and Peace On Earth.
听
The lyrics will appear on a large screen and worshippers will be
encouraged to sing along.
听
Sue said: "It's not just about belting out Bono classics but a sharp
reminder to help fellow human beings who find themselves struggling to
survive on a daily basis."
听
The service will focus on the Millennium Development Goals to reduce
world poverty.
U2 frontman Bono is a global ambassador for the Millennium Development
Goals which aim to eradicate dehumanising conditions by 2015.
听
The
collection from the service will go to charities that are working to
these ends.
听
The U2Charist at St Swithin's will be at 4.30pm on
26 May. Admission is free but capacity is limited.
听
To reserve
seats people should call Radio Lincolnshire on 01522 821000.
听
The service will be broadcast on .
