Rev Julie Nicholson in Every Parent's Nightmare

Every Parent's Nightmare claims European Programming Award

Every Parent's Nightmare, produced by 大象传媒 Religion & Ethics for 大象传媒 One, has won the Best Documentary, News And Current Affairs award at the European Television Festival of Religious Programmes in Kristiansand, Norway.

The film also won the audience prize for Best Overall Programme, as voted for by producers and broadcasters from across the continent.

Every Parent's Nightmare, which aired last year, followed the Reverend Julie Nicholson on what she called "a journey through grief and doubt," following the murder of her daughter in the London bombings of 7 July 2005.

Julie captured headlines when she resigned as Vicar of St Aidan's Church, Bristol after she felt unable to lead others in worship, while she could not forgive her daughter's killer. She has remained an Anglican priest.

Julie's journey took her all over the British Isles, meeting other parents who have experienced the suffering or loss of a child, in an effort to find out whether faith and, in particular, the Easter story, had anything to offer them by way of comfort or meaning.

The film, produced and directed by Roger Childs, also won a Merit Award at the UK's Sandford St Martin Awards for Religious Broadcasting, in Belfast last month.

Michael Wakelin, Studio Head, 大象传媒 Religion & Ethics, says: "This is the second major award for Every Parent's Nightmare and it is richly deserved. I'm absolutely delighted for Roger and his team."
