Asian Network DJ Nihal in Ealing Southall
|
大象传媒 Asian Network and Radio 1 DJ Nihal will take the political
temperature of Ealing Southall on Tuesday 17 July.
听
Nihal will meet the Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative candidates standing in the
Ealing Southall by-election on 19 July 2007, a keenly fought contest at the heart
of the West London Asian community and a crucial test for new Prime
Minister Gordon Brown.
听
With defections among local councillors and some
candidates stopping their campaigns to back others the contest is hotting
up.
听
Nihal will ask why they feel they can represent the Ealing Southall
constituency and how they are going to rise to some of the challenges such as the economy, national security, health, schooling and, more
controversially, immigration.
听
There will be questions from local residents
about how the predominantly Sikh identity of the area is being
represented.
听
Listeners can contact the show: email
nihal@bbc.co.uk; call 08459 440 445; text 81869; or call the rant line on 08459 777 006.
听
Timings for the morning
听
9-10am: Nihal quizzes the trio on their plans for community relations
and why they should be elected
听
10-11am: Nihal will be taking a modern day look around Southall
听
11am-noon: in regular spot Music With A Message Nihal will be talking to
special guests DAM, a politically-based Palestinian hip hop
group who formed in 1998.
All three artists were born and raised in a mixed Israeli town of Arabs
and Jews.
