Keira Knightley talks to Jonathan Ross as ´óÏó´«Ã½ One series returns
Oscar-nominated actress Keira Knightley joins four-times BAFTA winner Jonathan Ross in a rare and exclusive TV appearance when his multi award-winning ´óÏó´«Ã½ One show returns tonight.
Ìý
In a candid conversation on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, Keira talks about her career from her first screen appearance at the age of seven to her critically-acclaimed role in Atonement, opening in the UK today.
Ìý
She reveals a self-critical streak: "I don't like watching myself. It's weird, I get really embarrassed, I look funny. I just don't think it's very good most of the time, I can't watch without analysing it."
Ìý
Why was she was drawn to Atonement: "The script made me cry. We were trying to go for a 1940s style of acting which I really enjoy, the pinnacle of stiff upper lip, I tried to mimic Celia Johnson in Brief Encounter.
Ìý
"I needed to do something very different, it's very rewarding, if you feel drained you know you've done a good job."
Ìý
Keira also explains how the paparazzi get her down: "I don't deal with it very well, I cry a lot. I find it very frightening, it's very difficult to get out of your front door. There's someone there more or less every day, about five guys, I'm shaking thinking about it."
Ìý
She talks about filming nude scenes: "It's quite embarrassing, we had a lot of paparazzi trying to get in that day."
Ìý
And reaction to comment about her weight: "It's very difficult, men don't get it as much as women."
Ìý
She confirms one day she will give it all up: "I'm obsessed by films but the fame side of it is scary. If at any point I had a child I wouldn't feel comfortable presenting my child to these people [paparazzi] every day. It feels like being trapped.
Ìý
"I'm not planning to have children at the moment... but everyone changes, and I'm sure there will be a time I'll want to do something different. I could completely see myself moving away."
Ìý
Keira also talks about the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies and her admiration for co-star Johnny Depp: "People laughed at me which is understandable, no one thought it would be any good... I loved the swash-buckling, I did a lot of training for that.
Ìý
"Johnny Depp is amazing. No one thought his character would work, it was totally his creation, really impressive."
Ìý
She also has a particular compliment for Jonathan's new look: "You look like Johnny Depp because of your beard!'"
Ìý
Jonathan also welcomes to the show UK comedy hero Simon Pegg; US A-list funnyman Adam Sandler; and there's music from 23-piece band The Polyphonic Spree performing their new single Running Away live in the studio.
