Justin Webb appointed 大象传媒 News North America Editor

Justin Webb has been appointed to the new post of 大象传媒 News North America Editor.

Justin has been North America correspondent since 2001 and takes up his new role in December 2007.

Justin said: "The 2008 presidential election is a key moment in the history of the United States, a moment of potentially huge change, and I am delighted to have the chance to lead the 大象传媒's coverage.

"We all know that what happens in Washington really does matter, it can change lives for better or for worse right across the globe.

"For a reporter there is no better posting, and, on the eve of the 2008 election, no better time to be here."

Francesca Unsworth, Head of Newsgathering, said: "Justin's depth of understanding of the US, and its place in the world, will be hugely valuable to us in the coming couple of years.

"He will lead our coverage of the 2008 election and its aftermath, shaping the style and tone of our editorial agenda in America, reporting for Radio, TV and Online."

Justin Webb was appointed as the 大象传媒's chief radio and Washington correspondent in 2001.

Prior to this, he spent three years working as the 大象传媒's Europe correspondent based in Brussels.

Justin joined the 大象传媒 as a graduate trainee in 1984 working in Northern Ireland for 大象传媒 Radio Ulster, based in Belfast.

He then worked as a reporter for 大象传媒 Radio 4's Today programme, before becoming a foreign affairs correspondent based in London and covering news around the world.

From 1992 to 1997 Justin was a 大象传媒 News presenter based in London and the main presenter on 大象传媒 One's Breakfast News programme.

He then presented the 大象传媒's One and Six O'Clock News bulletins and during this time interviewed many senior politicians including former Prime Minister John Major and then Prime Minister Tony Blair.

As a foreign correspondent Justin has reported on the Gulf War and the war in Bosnia, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the first democratic elections in South Africa.

Whilst working as the 大象传媒's Europe correspondent he reported on the workings of the European Commission and Parliament, the politics surrounding Britain's decision on whether to join the single currency and the enlargement of the European Union.
