Record total and record auction bid donated by Radio 2 listeners for ´óÏó´«Ã½

A record £2,514,579 has been raised by generous ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 2 listeners for this
year's ´óÏó´«Ã½ Children in Need Appeal.

A quarter of a million pounds came in the form of a record bid in the
Things That Money Can't Buy auction on Sir Terry Wogan's breakfast
show, for a concert performed by Katie Melua and Aled Jones.
Ìý
Chris Evans' Drivetime auction and a Music Marathon were also part of
the network's week-long round of fundraising activities.

Radio 2's
grand total also includes £1,021,143 from the sales of the Janet & John
Reloaded CD, produced by Terry's listeners The TOGS.
Ìý
Sir Terry says of Things That Money Can't Buy auction: "Every year we
think the British public can't be more generous than they were last
year.
Ìý
"The total last year was in excess of half a million pounds and
this year's total is £894,000.
Ìý
"It is a privilege to be part of this –
and humbling too."
Ìý
The auction received its biggest-ever phone pledge when Martin Ainscough from Wigan bid £250,000 for a performance by Katie Melua and Aled Jones.
Ìý
VIP passes to the British Grand Prix next year fetched £100,000, and
tickets to Led Zeppelin's reunion concert and the chance to see them in
rehearsals went for £83,000.

A lunch date with Sir Terry and Sir Roger
Moore raised £75,000, and five days at the internationally-renowned
Raymond Blanc Cookery School, Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons in Oxford, and
an exclusive evening's tuition with Blanc himself raised £40,000.

Chris Evans held an auction during his Radio 2 Drivetime show, raising £231,019.
Ìý
Chris offered a chance for 40 people, with a friend each, to
play golf at a course in Surrey before going to his pub to enjoy food
cooked by Giorgio Locatelli, wine chosen by Oz Clarke, a live
performance by Drivetime favourites The Proclaimers, a pub quiz courtesy
of the programme's Jonny Saunders and a disco hosted by Chris.
