C大象传媒's Newsround announces two new special programmes

Fresh from the success of the multi-award-winning animated Newsround documentary, The Wrong Trainers, Anne Gilchrist, Controller, C大象传媒, has commissioned two special programmes on divorce and knife crime which will air on C大象传媒 this spring.
听
Anne Gilchrist said: "Newsround continues its 35-year long tradition of tackling difficult yet truly relevant topics on behalf of children. Both of these special programmes help give children a voice within British society. Newsround is still the only daily, year-round provider of news especially for children."
听
The Wrong Trainers was an animated documentary about children living in poverty in the UK and won a BAFTA for Best Factual Childrens Programme, among other awards.
听
The two new short films will be produced by the same team and will look at both issues through children's experiences.
听
The Worst Thing Ever? uses real children's experiences of divorce to create a powerful drama about a child witnessing the breakdown of his parents' relationship.
听
Interwoven throughout the 15-minute piece are animated tips to help children deal with the pressure created by their parents splitting up. These are written and voiced by 12-year-old Libby Rees, and inspired by her book Help, Hope And Happiness which she wrote from her own experience of family break up.
听
The second piece investigates the issue of young people carrying and using knives, and how they are affected by knife crime.
听
A recent survey was commissioned by Newsround Editor Sinead Rocks, who said: "Our survey revealed that crime and violence is a real fear amongst children today. Twelve per cent of children feel unsafe on the streets, with two per cent carrying a weapon for protection, and, startlingly, ten per cent of children are scared that they may be stabbed or shot."
听
Both these specials are being made by award-winning director Kez Margrie, who said: "We know that these are topics which are of real concern to children. The Worst Thing Ever? puts children as experts at the heart of the programme and offers genuine self-help solutions to those going through it.
听
"Knife crime is a growing issue, if we can in some way help children to understand that carrying knives will not keep them safe then we'll have done our job."
